A Day in the Life of a Mehaffies Pie Baker
June 3, 2025
What Does Your Favorite Pie Say About You?
July 9, 2025At Mehaffies Pies, we believe pie is more than dessert—it’s a way to bring people together. It’s what fuels our ovens in the early morning hours and what connects us to generations of families, friends, and neighbors across the Dayton area.
We’ve been baking in this community for decades, and we’re proud to say that every pie we make is crafted with local love and a sense of purpose. Dayton isn’t just where we do business—it’s where we live, give back, and build relationships that last.
Why Dayton Is Home
Dayton, Ohio has always been at the heart of Mehaffies Pies. It’s where we got our start, and it’s where we’ve chosen to stay.
There’s something special about this city—the way neighbors look out for each other, the strength of its small business community, and the pride people take in supporting local. We’ve been lucky enough to meet countless customers who feel like family, and it’s their stories and support that keep us going.
As Brian, our owner, puts it:
The pies we make for our local community are what get me out of bed and to the store at 1:00am. The fundraisers our pies are used for touch a lot of people, all of our customers are so interesting and we love hearing their stories."
Pies That Give Back
Mehaffies Pies has become a familiar name at community events, fundraisers, and even some of our local prisons order pies as a special treat for inmates. Our pies have been served at:
- Church events and school fundraisers
- Local festivals like the Preble County Pork Festival
- Community appreciation days and holiday drives
We’re also honored to support our local heroes. Fire department chiefs in our area often stop in to pick up pies as a treat for their first responders—a small but heartfelt way to say thank you for their service. And businesses like Summers Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling in the neighboring state of Indiana, regularly purchase Mehaffies Pies to distribute directly to first responders in their area.
When people choose our pies for their events and appreciation efforts, they’re not just picking something sweet—they’re supporting a business that is proud to serve and uplift the Dayton community.
Local Businesses, Local Impact
We’re also part of how local companies give back to their employees and neighbors. Businesses like Silfex and Kraft Heinz make Mehaffies Pies part of their holiday and recognition traditions—handing out pies as a gesture of gratitude.
This spirit of giving creates a ripple effect, and we’re proud to be a part of it.
We’ve also grown thanks to connections with other small businesses. For example, Narco Burger introduced Cousin Vinny’s Pizza to our pies, and now both proudly serve Mehaffies Pies (***coming soon to Cousin Vinny’s locations!). We’re thankful for The Pie Peddler and other partners who help us reach more families throughout the region.
When small businesses support each other, our whole community grows stronger!
Why We Stay
We stay because this is where we belong. Dayton is full of hardworking, kind, and generous people—and we want to keep baking for them.
We know our pies are special. They’re handmade, rooted in tradition, and full of flavors you can’t find anywhere else. But the only way we can keep doing what we love is if our community continues to thrive.
We’re invested in that future—because a thriving Dayton means we get to keep bringing you the kind of homemade desserts that you’ve grown to know and love.
Thank You, Dayton
To all the families, businesses, churches, schools, and first responders who have shared a Mehaffies Pies over the years—thank you.
Thank you for believing in what we do. Thank you for letting us be part of your fundraisers, holidays, team lunches, and quiet moments at home.
If you’ve never had a Mehaffies Pie, we invite you to stop in. And if you’re one of our longtime customers, know that every pie we bake is a tribute to you and the community we love.
Because here at Mehaffies, pie is always personal—and always for our community that we love.
